Now that the days are getting longer and there’s a hint of spring in the air, Overstranders are heading outdoors again – and the events calendar is heating up. In June 2025 alone, 258 events were recorded, with July reaching 240.
With so much happening, event organisers are reminded to plan ahead and submit their applications well in advance. The Overstrand Municipality’s Events Policy outlines clear timelines and requirements for hosting any public event, and late applications may not be considered.
Depending on the size of the event, applications must be submitted between one and six months before the event date. Small events (between 50 and 500 people) require at least one month’s notice, while medium-sized events (501 to 2 000 people) must be submitted two months in advance. Large events (2 001 to 5 000 attendees) require three months, and very large events with over 5 000 people must be submitted six months ahead of time.
In addition to the completed application form, organisers may need to submit supporting documents such as indemnity and public liability insurance, a safety and emergency plan, SAPS risk classification, temporary structure approval, a population certificate, sound exemption application, and a Certificate of Acceptability from the Overberg District Municipality’s Health Department.
Event applications can be downloaded from the municipal website at www.overstrand.gov.za under Application Forms > Events .
Please note that submitting an application does not automatically guarantee approval. For more information on the event application process and compliance requirements, contact the public liaison officer at your nearest municipal office.
